Well, this is one of the best Jazz-Movies I've ever seem! An absolute 'must', if you wish to see and feel authentic stuff. You'll be delighted;)

The music was great, BUT the first scene has "approved" domestic violence of a man hitting a woman so hard that she gets knocked to the floor (while an onlooker calmly sitting in a chair continues to read a paper). Don't know if at the time when this film was made that people took this as regular treatment of African Americans towards their women, but thought this was unnecessary to have this added to a musical regardless of the race involved.
