(1946) {aka The Mad Hatter} A movie that is a visual record of the popular radio show hosted by Tom Breneman. This is a dramatisation rather than a documentary that follows the lives of several audience guests, but focuses mainly on a young couple who did not know each other before going to the show. This film is a little tricky to pigeonhole, my best label would be a "rom com with musical interludes" (that include Nat "King" Cole), and is the movie equivalent of candy floss. The movie is skilfully carried by Tom Breneman, who was obviously a very professional, smooth and easy going host, and is worth watching in what could be your only filmed opportunity to see him in action. He passed away indecently young, two years after this film was made, and the radio show did not last much longer without his presence. The 1h 27mins seems to pass quickly. Video 8 Sound 8.
