Blaxploitation meets kung fu movie in this odd hybrid revenge flick. As with all these 70s kung fu flicks, you have to wonder why the bad guys always let the unarmed goodie to get close enough to lop off their heads! Black hero is double crossed by his partners on the way home from 'Nam (via a quick drugs score) and ends up in the sea with a slashed throat. Hero washes up on a beach and is trained in the arts of killing Japanese style by two WWII soldiers still holeing out on a Pacific island despite the war ending thirty years earlier. When the opportunity arises, our hero returns to the now mean streets of Los Angeles and begins a one-man clean-up operation to rid the city of the organised crime scum who run the town. But then our hero's wife and child are kidnapped by his former partners.... Despite the graphic violence, our hero stops short of the usual "F" word, instead labelling all in sight "mother-humpers" (I kid you not!). This movie is pretty good even if you've seen it all before. Definitely a fairly easy way to kill a couple of hours enjoyably. And the best characters are the Japanese soldiers by far. Even the one who sings the same song, over and over and over and over and over again.
