Billy the Kid Trapped Rating : Posted by : deadred on Fri, 25 May 2012 13:26:01 -0400 (1942) Quite a good horse opera, and another angle on Billy the Kid played as a hero on the edge of the law by Buster Crabbe. This has plenty of good characters, horse chases, gun and fist fights with little time spared for many romantic scenes. I did find it a little confusing with wondering who was shooting or chasing whom, but full marks for fitting it all in to 55 minutes. Some missed dialogue and missing frames. Video 7 Sound 7.
Boy Meets Dog Rating : Posted by : deadred on Tue, 22 May 2012 11:40:50 -0400 (1938) A grumpy father forbids his son Bobby from hanging out with friends, fishing, having pets etc. When Bobby brings a dog home, it riles his father, but before Bobby gets punished, a load of Pixie's try, convict and sentence the misery guts. A lot of mention of dental care as this was made for a toothpaste company, but I think the obvious marketing bits have been edited out [prime edit @ 08:43]. Nicely detailed scenes and quaintly amusing, but no laughs. 9mins 16secs. Video 7 Sound 8.

She can only get a job at a nightclub run by the gang. He has to go on the run, but a freak accident give him the opportunity to investigate the robbery so as to clear both their names. 1h 8mins. Video 7 Sound 4. Lots of hiss and scratch, plus it seems to be left channel only (PSP version watched).
Beggars in Ermine Rating : Posted by : deadred on Mon, 21 May 2012 04:28:39 -0400 (1934) This movie starts at such a slow pace I thought it was going to be one of the very rare occasions that I wouldn't watch a movie all the way through. However, I stuck with it, and was glad I did. I rather enjoyed this tale of a successful business man, who is betrayed, crippled and made virtually penniless, claw his way back with the help of peddlers & beggars - just suspend your belief though. One thing I couldn't shake from my head was the character of Marchant the Blind Man, played by Henry B. Walthall looking a bit like Peter Sellers' Dr. Strangelove. Something to do with dark glasses and permanent smile I guess. 1h 10mins. Video 8 Sound 8.
